Turkey has imposed an international travel ban on the son of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia.
The Turkish government declared that Mohamed Hassan Sheikh Mohamud would not be allowed to leave the country any time soon.
This happened following reports that Mohamed drove a car that rear-ended a motorcycle belonging to Yunus Emre Gocer on November 30.
Gocer, a 38-year-old Turkish cyclist, eventually died from the severe injuries sustained during the accident.
At the time, the Somali President’s son had been driving a car registered under the Somali Consulate in Istanbul.
The Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor confirmed the travel ban.
The incident is likely to cause a serious diplomatic row between Turkey and Somalia. Historically, both nations enjoy brotherly relations.
It is not clear whether Turkey would charge the President’s son in court.
