Turkey Promises to Support Somaliland’s Fight against COVID-19

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) promised to support Somaliland in its fight against the deadly COVID-19.

TIKA has pledged to send more cleaning, hygiene, and sanitization equipment to Somaliland to help the East African state to wage a successful war against COVID-19.

The equipment is for 12 state hospitals. Six temporary hospitals set up primarily with COVID-19 in mind are to benefit from the donation too.

TIKA made the announcement on Thursday as reports emerged of Turkey’s willingness and determination to support countries around the world in their fight against the virulent disease.

The government of Somaliland is struggling to bring the disease under control and has sent out an international appeal for assistance with sanitization equipment.

TIKA’s donation includes 4,800 liters of bleach, 2,400 liters of antiseptic, and 1,200 liters of disinfectants, which it handed over to the Ministry of Health in Hargeisa.

While receiving the equipment, the health minister, Dr. Omar Ali Abdilahi, thanked Turkey for the donation, especially during such a difficult time for not only the country but also the world.

Ali Noyan Coskun, the Turkish Consul General in Hargeisa, handed over the equipment and assured Somaliland of his country’s continued support.
