Turkey Ready to Defuse Tension between Somalia and Ethiopia

Turkey is prepared to step in and mediate the diplomatic row between Somalia and Ethiopia.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is scheduled to travel to Turkey on June 17 for talks with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Turkish leader is willing to discuss ways of ending the row between Somalia and Ethiopia.

Somalia and Ethiopia have been at loggerheads since January 1, 2024 when the latter signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Somaliland.

Furthermore, Mohamud and Erdogan are likely to revisit recent agreements between their respective nations too.

These include oil exploration and production as well as naval agreement.
