Turkiye to Help Improve Somalia’s Immigration and Border Security

Mogadishu, Somalia – Turkiye will support initiatives to modernize Somalia’s immigration and border management systems within a larger partnership focused on enhancing governance and security, stated the Turkish ambassador following discussions with Somali officials.

Ambassador Alper Aktas held talks with Mustafa Sheikh Ali Duhulow, Director-General of the Somali Immigration and Citizenship Agency, covering technical collaboration and extended strategies to advance Somalia’s immigration services.

Aktas indicated that Turkiye would help develop the agency’s operational capabilities, encompassing border control and management systems.

This Turkish involvement forms part of its broader development role in Somalia, including oversight of Mogadishu’s port and Aden Adde International Airport, both crucial economic arteries for the nation.

Turkish efforts in infrastructure and public services have been recognized for spurring economic vitality and refining core state operations.

Ties between the countries grew stronger in 2011 with Turkiye’s extensive humanitarian aid during Somalia’s famine. Thereafter, Ankara has widened its aid to encompass military training, public administration, and economic growth.

Somali officials note that the fresh immigration cooperation will fortify state bodies and elevate national security. The administration anticipates Turkiye’s technical proficiency will hasten reforms for a more streamlined and open immigration process.
