Turkey’s Oruç Reis Completes 50% of Seismic Survey in Somalia

Somalia’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Abdirashid Mohamed Ahmed Dahashire, has announced that Turkey’s Oruç Reis vessel has completed 50% of its seismic survey in Somali waters.

This marks a significant milestone in Somalia’s efforts to explore and develop its offshore oil and gas resources.

The Oruç Reis began its three-dimensional seismic studies on October 26, 2024, and the mission is expected to last approximately seven months.

The data collected will be crucial for identifying potential oil and natural gas reserves in Somali waters, which could play a pivotal role in the country’s economic development and energy sector growth.

This collaboration with Turkey highlights the strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations in the energy sector.
