Turkish Drones Dispatched to Gedo as Jubbaland vs. FGS Feud Worsens

Turkish drones have been dispatched to Gedo in Jubbaland as the state’s feud with the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) worsens.

The decision to dispatch the drones takes place at a time when Jubbaland and FGS have agreed to dialogue as a means of curbing further fallout.

Any further fallout between these teams could pave the way for the reemergence of Al-Shabaab in the region.

With Turkey’s entry into the feud, several repercussions now appear likely.

Arguably, the most striking consequence of this fallout is the inability of the region to hold local and parliamentary elections, which are expected later this month.

President Ahmed Islam Madobe of Jubbaland threatened that elections would not take place in the region unless FGS withdraws its troops.

Turkey has a close working relationship with FGS.

Therefore, the presence of Turkish drones or troops in Jubbaland is likely to aid Mogadishu’s cause rather than Kismayo’s.
