The Turkish seismic research vessel Oruç Reis has officially started its seafloor scanning operations off the coast of Somalia, exploring for potential natural resources.
The vessel, which arrived on October 25, 2024, was welcomed in Somalia by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, alongside Somali and Turkish officials, marking a significant step in the growing partnership between Somalia and Turkey.
The Oruç Reis will map seafloor blocks to assess resource potential, aligning with Somalia’s interest in leveraging its marine resources to bolster economic development.
This collaboration also underscores Türkiye’s ongoing commitment to supporting Somalia’s development goals and expanding bilateral ties in energy and maritime sectors.
