Latest reports indicate that Türkiye is preparing to deploy military personnel, including private defense contractors, to Somalia to support counterterrorism efforts against the Al-Shabaab militant group.
In July 2024, the Turkish parliament approved a two-year deployment of Turkish Armed Forces to assist Somalia in combating terrorism and addressing security threats.
Additionally, reports suggest that Türkiye plans to send personnel from Sadat, a private defense contractor known for providing military training and consultancy services, to Somalia.
Türkiye’s involvement in Somalia is part of a broader strategy to enhance military and economic ties with African nations, including a 10-year defense and economic cooperation agreement signed in February 2024.
Furthermore, Türkiye has established Camp TURKSOM in Mogadishu, serving as a military base and defense university, contributing significantly to the development of Somalia’s national defense capabilities.
