Mogadishu, Somalia – The Turkish government has announced the deployment of 500 additional special forces to Somalia, including 300 commandos and 200 support personnel, in a renewed push to combat non-state threats such as Al-Shabaab.
The decision follows a high-level teleconference between Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, where both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties.
According to CGTN Africa, the new deployment will boost counterterrorism and drone operations in Somalia, underscoring Türkiye’s strategic partnership with Mogadishu in regional security.
Beyond defense cooperation, the two presidents also agreed to expand collaboration in the energy and blue economy sectors, reflecting a broadening of Türkiye’s engagement in Somalia’s long-term development and stability.
