Two Female Singers Set Free by Hargeisa Court

Two female singers who have been in detention since April 20, 2020 have been set free by a court in Hargeisa.

Somaliland’s Human Rights Center confirmed the latest development while commending the decision to set the two singers free.

Barwaaqo Mohamed Hashi and Hamda Yusuf Ibrahim were arrested last month in a move labeled “unconstitutional” and “repressive” by the Human Rights Center.

Authorities had accused the two women of engaging in anti-patriotic activities and corruption. Their charges related to a performance during a music concert in Mogadishu.

Nevertheless, the decision by the Court of Appeal in Hargeisa to set the two musicians free has received applause around the country.
