Two journalists were arrested after being lured to attend an interview at a court in Garowe on September 6.
The two, Khadar Awl Ismail and Abdiqani Ahmed Mohamed, local police reportedly arrested them at the court.
Ismail is the Director of Radio Daljir while Mohamed works as a reporter at the same radio station.
They had responded to an invitation to interview judicial authorities on the recent acquittal of men accused of raping and murdering a woman in the region in 2019.
When they showed up, the police arrested the journalists immediately.
Afterward, they were detained at the main prison in Garowe.
The interview invitation came after the family of the victim who was raped and murdered denounced the court’s decision to acquit the men.
Her family protested the acquittal on Radio Daljir.
Eventually, the journalists were released on the same day.
