On Sunday, a fight broke out near Mudug’s capital of Galkayo City in Central Somalia causing the deaths of two people while injuring several others.
The fighting, which flared up around Teegare to the capital’s west, involving two clan militia quickly transitioned into a full blown conflict, according to eyewitnesses.
The injured were then rushed to a local hospital for medical checkup and treatment. Latest reports indicate that the situation has mellowed somewhat.
No reason for the conflict has been given yet. Authorities in Galmudug and Puntland have yet to comment on the conflict either.
However, local community elders have launched meditation efforts to stop the bloodshed and encourage dialogue between the warring clans.
