Uganda has announced plans to send 1,000 troops to Somalia to join the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
The 1,000 troops would take over from their colleagues who have completed their one-year of service with AMISOM in Somalia.
Reports from Kampala say that Uganda would be sending mostly retirees.
However, the retired soldiers would first go through intensive military training lasting four months before deployment to Somalia.
Ugandan troops are part of AMISOM, which has been mandated to secure the country from threats presented by Al-Shabaab.
AMISOM also has the task of training security officers in Somalia.
