Uganda is scheduled to send up to 1,800 soldiers to Somalia as part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Commander of the land forces of Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF), made this announcement on August 28.
He confirmed that the country would be deploying 1,847 soldiers to Somalia in September 2021.
Gen. Kainerugaba made this announcement while visiting 2,127 UPDF soldiers at the Singo Peace Support Training Center (PSO-TC), Nakaseke District.
The UPDF Commander also commended Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) for their role in maintaining peace in Somalia.
Ugandan and Kenyan forces are part of AMISOM.
Moreover, Gen. Kainerugaba said that Uganda and Somalia have a brotherly relationship that allows them to support each other.
