Ugandan AMISOM Forces Kill 189 Members of Al-Shabaab

African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops from Uganda killed around 189 members of Al-Shabaab in one of the biggest raids in the East African nation.

According to a report by the Ugandan People’s Defense Forces (UPDF), the extremists were killed in a recent raid.

Lt. Col. Deo Akiiki, UPDF’s deputy spokesperson, the Ugandan soldiers conducted the raid on January 22.

He confirmed that the soldiers carried out the raid in Sigaale village, which is roughly 100kms to the southwest of Mogadishu.

“Our soldiers conducted raids in Kayitoy, Adimole, and Sigaale villages,” Lt. Col. Akiiki said.

“During the raids, we identified and killed 189 fighters linked to Al-Shabaab while destroying the equipment they use to terrorize the residents of these Lower Shabelle villages,” he said.

UPDF was able to carry out this raid because of the attack helicopters it now has.

More impressively, Brig. Gen. Don William Ndasaba, the Commander of the UPDF AMISOM forces, no Ugandan soldier was killed or injured in the operation.
