Lieutenant General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, a Commander of Ugandan People’s Defense Forces (UPDF), is in Somalia to evaluate the welfare of the troops.
UPDF troops are part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) forces.
Lt. Gen. Kainerugaba visited them to assess their welfare and express the gratitude of the government for their role in contributing towards peace in the East African nation.
The senior military officer visited Somalia from September 23-27.
During his visit, Lt. Gen. Kainerugaba interacted with UPDF troops.
He urged them to remain steadfast as part of the efforts designed to flush out Al-Shabaab militants from various parts of Somalia.
While in Somalia, he also held discussions with outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.
He also met with senior leadership of AMISOM.
Lt. Gen. Kainerugaba took time to tour many Forward Operating Bases (FOBs), as part of the efforts to interact with Ugandan soldiers in the frontline.
