A Ugandan soldier has been sentenced to death for taking part in the killing of Somali civilians a few months ago.
The soldier was in a group of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops that killed the civilians while on a patrol.
Uganda tried the soldier in the country’s courts.
AMISOM’s investigations revealed that the soldiers had indeed been culpable of killing civilians, thus were deserving of prosecution.
AMISOM found the soldiers guilty on October 21.
The verdict was delivered through a mobile court that sat in Mogadishu.
Additionally, the court also sentenced three other soldiers to a prison term of 39 years for the same offence, which was committed on August 10 in Lower Shabelle region.
