On Friday, March 28, 2025, United States Ambassador Richard H. Riley and outgoing United Kingdom Ambassador Mike Nithavrianakis met with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud at Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport (AAIA) Green Zone, following the President’s return from Turkey.
Multiple diplomatic sources confirmed to members of the Fourth Estate that the meeting focused on critical security and political developments in Somalia, emphasizing the importance of achieving political consensus on key national priorities.
These priorities include the resumption of National Consultative Council (NCC) meetings, coordination of nationwide counterterrorism efforts, and preparations for the forthcoming electoral process.
Both ambassadors have previously engaged in efforts to support Somalia’s security and development.
Amb. Riley has expressed the U.S. commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations and cooperation with Somalia, particularly in joint counter-terrorism efforts.
Similarly, Amb. Nithavrianakis has emphasized the U.K.’s dedication to enhancing strategic partnerships with Somalia across various sectors, including security and economic growth.
