The United Kingdom has announced a cancelation of 100 percent of the debts owed by Somalia.
Sam Thomas, the Deputy Ambassador of the UK to Somalia, confirmed this development when he held discussions with Bihi Egeh.
Deputy Ambassador Thomas visited Egeh, the Minister of Finance, at the ministry offices in Mogadishu.
“Today, I informed the finance minister that the UK has canceled 100% of Somalia’s historic debts,” said Thomas.
He added that the UK remains a debt relief champion for Somalia.
According to Thomas, the cancelation of debts will now enable Somalia to attract investment, grow the economy, and build a country that is both secure and stable for all Somalis.
