Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia and the United Kingdom adopted a positive tone on Wednesday as the British Embassy organized the 2025 King’s Birthday event in central Mogadishu, attracting high-ranking officials and diplomats for an evening centered on friendship and prospective collaboration.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre led the proceedings, alongside UK Ambassador Charles King and fellow dignitaries, to observe King Charles III’s official birthday, a customary yearly event at British diplomatic posts around the world.
During his main speech, Amb. King discussed a partnership strengthened over years of joint efforts in security, governance, humanitarian aid, and development.
He portrayed UK-Somalia relations as rooted in “deep trust and genuine mutual respect,” noting that both countries hold a shared outlook for enduring stability and prosperity.
He closed with a formal toast: “Long live the UK–Somalia friendship, long live His Majesty King Charles III.”
PM Barre, commenting on the King’s international stature, commended Charles III’s dedication to key concerns for Somalia: climate action, sustainable development, and community empowerment.
He voiced optimism that ties between the two countries would deepen further, extending wishes for the monarch’s good health and ongoing guidance.
This year’s gathering transcended mere diplomatic routine, underscoring renewed UK involvement in Somalia during a crucial period, including support for security improvements, economic progress, and adaptation to climate threats.
