UK Commended for Role in Reducing Impact of Floods in Somalia Last Year

The United Kingdom has been widely acclaimed for its role in reducing the impact of floods in Somalia last year.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said that UK played a crucial role in ensuring that Somalis did not lose more people to the floods.

Somalia was hit by deadly floods from heavy rains that occurred toward the end of 2023.

According to FAO, the UK helped by acting swiftly to evacuate Somalis from regions that experienced floods as rivers burst around the country.

It also called for early warnings as floods are expected to return when the Gu rains resume.

FAO added that the East African nation needs an effective flood defense infrastructure to save the lives of Somalis in the country too.
