UK Envoy Urges Stronger C6+ Dialogue to Back Somalia’s Stability

Mogadishu, Somalia – The United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Somalia, Charles King, has expressed optimism that the C6+ partners — a coalition of the country’s key international backers — will maintain their momentum in ongoing discussions aimed at supporting Somalia’s recovery and state-building efforts.

Speaking to the media in Mogadishu, Amb. King emphasized that sustained engagement from the C6+ bloc, which brings together influential international partners, remains vital for Somalia’s progress.

“The most effective way to support Somalia is through consistent dialogue and coordination,” he said, noting that diplomacy and joint planning are central to ensuring stability.

He highlighted that the partnership must go beyond political dialogue, urging international allies to align their efforts in security, governance, and development. This, he argued, would help strengthen Somalia’s resilience in the face of terrorism, climate shocks, and economic fragility.

The Ambassador’s remarks come as Somalia works to consolidate recent gains in governance reforms and security transitions, including the phased drawdown of African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) peacekeepers. The government has also accelerated efforts to expand basic services, reform public finances, and boost economic self-sufficiency.

By reinforcing the C6+ framework, Amb. King said, Somalia’s partners can deliver “coordinated and lasting impact” to help the country move toward stability and long-term growth.
