A meeting between the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) Minister for Africa, Lord Collins of Highbury, and Ali Omar, along with Somalia’s National Security Advisor, took place today.
The meeting and subsequent discussions underscore the strong partnership between the UK and Somalia.
Discussions likely focused on collaborating to support Somalia’s security priorities, particularly in light of the planned transition to a new peacekeeping mission, African Union Somalia Transition Mission (AUSSOM).
This engagement reflects the UK’s commitment to promoting stability in Somalia, enhancing counter-terrorism efforts, and facilitating the transition from the AU Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to a Somali-led security framework.
Their cooperation is pivotal in ensuring a smooth handover and long-term security in the region.
