The United Kingdom has released a contribution of £7.5 million to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
The donation from the UK government, which its Embassy in Mogadishu announced on Wednesday, is a continuation of its financial support aimed at bolstering peace and security efforts in Somalia.
This funding brings the UK’s total support for both ATMIS and its predecessor, AMISOM, to £77 million since 2021.
The support underscores the UK’s commitment to aiding Somalia in its fight against terrorism, stabilizing the region, and enhancing security through the transition of responsibilities to Somali forces.
ATMIS has been a key player in countering the Al-Shabaab insurgency and facilitating peacebuilding in Somalia.
