UK to Increase Drought Response Funding to Somalia by £5.5 Million

The United Kingdom has increased its drought response funding to Somalia by a further £5.5 million.

Vicky Ford, a UK MP and the Minister for Africa, made this announcement on February 6.

The additional funding comes hot on the heels of the one made last month in which the UK government issued £8 million for the same purpose.

Kate Foster, the UK Ambassador to Somalia, confirmed the funding.

Ambassador Foster promised that the funding would help provide 500,000 people in Somalia with access to clean and safe water.

Further, Ambassador Foster indicated that the funds would also enable the UK to build more dams and water tanks in conjunction with the Somali government.
