UK Warns Somalia against Further Elections Delays

The United Kingdom has warned Somalia’s leaders and the government against delaying elections any further.

Ben Fender, the UK Ambassador to Somalia, said that the East African nation should not postpone elections any further.

On February 3, Fender said that Somalia’s leaders have no option than to reach consensus on elections to enhance stability in the nation.

Furthermore, he reminded Somalia that solutions to its challenges and problems can only be attained internally.

Consequently, Ambassador Fender has ruled out intervention by the government of the United Kingdom or any foreign power.

Ambassador Fender is among diplomats who have been pushing stakeholders to embrace consensus and dialogue.

The warning comes at a time when the East African nation should be preparing for presidential elections, which are due on February 8 when President Mohamed Farmaajo’s term expires.
