Mogadishu, Somalia – The third Ulema Conference reached its third day on Wednesday in Mogadishu, attracting more than 300 religious scholars from across the country, the wider Horn of Africa, Europe, and the United States, according to the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.
The assembly is addressing key national matters, including security, social cohesion, and effective governance, as scholars express support for ongoing military campaigns against militant groups.
Officials state that the wide participation signals a rising consensus among Somali religious leaders to oppose extremist ideology and promote stability.
Daylong sessions are set to discuss how Islamic scholars can foster unity, enhance governance, and refute the narratives extremists use to sway communities.
Organizers indicate the annual conference serves as a crucial venue for national dialogue while Somalia advances state-building, reconciliation, and security initiatives.
