Several UN agencies have been accused of failure to pay youths hired to fight the spread of COVID-19 in Somalia.
UN Habitat is on top of the list of agencies facing condemnation for not paying the youths.
The agencies hired several youths in Mogadishu under the Durable Solutions Unit.
This week, over 400 youths raised the issue of non-payment of salaries. The health workers were hired to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the Benadir region.
UN agencies hired them on two-month contracts where each of them was to be paid a salary of $225 per month.
In return, the young workers were expected to cover all districts in the region.
They completed their work in July 30 when their contracts ended. Since then, the youths have been taken around in circles without receiving any pay.
