UN and IOM Representatives in Lower Shabelle to Assess Humanitarian Needs

Representatives from the United Nations (UN) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) traveled to Lower Shabelle on August 30 to assess the region’s humanitarian needs.

Abdikadir Sidi, the Governor of Lower Shabelle, received the representatives before showing them around the region.

He also welcomed officers from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Lower Shabelle is home to thousands of displaced people.

Inter-clan conflicts have forced many of them to leave the region. COVID-19 and the recent floods also worsened the situation.

Locals need boreholes to provide them with clean water. They also need food and non-food items.
