UN Calls for Increased Protection of Aid Workers in Somalia

The United Nations has called for increased protection of aid workers in Somalia.

Adam Abdelmoula, the UN Head of Humanitarian Affairs in Somalia, made this call on August 19 in Mogadishu, Somalia.

He said that humanitarian workers need increased protection because of the live-saving services and assistance that they provide.

In Somalia alone, over 146 incidents that impacted humanitarian services negatively have been recorded since the beginning of 2021.

Moreover, five humanitarian workers have been injured and one killed during attacks launched against them in various parts of Somalia.

One aid worker remains abducted while three are either arrested or detained by authorities.

Abdelmoula was speaking on Thursday as the world marked this year’s World Humanitarian Day.
