UN Condemns Execution of 4 Youths in Puntland

The United Nation experts have strongly condemned the execution of four young adults in Puntland, Somalia, on August 17, 2024.

These individuals were executed for crimes allegedly committed while they were associated with the militant group Al-Shabaab.

The Puntland Age Verification Committee confirmed that the four young men were under 18 years old at the time of their offences.

The UN experts have raised serious concerns about the executions and emphasizing that they violate international human rights standards.

Particularly, their focus was on the rights of children and the prohibition of the death penalty for offenses committed by persons under 18.
