UN Condemns the Brutal Massacre of Eight Health Workers in Middle Shabelle

Adam Abdelmoula, the Deputy Special Representative of the United Secretary General, has condemned the brutal murder of eight health workers in Middle Shabelle, Somalia.

News of the massacre broke out early on Friday as the bodies of the deceased were discovered dumped on the roadside in Gololey, HirShabelle State.

Seven health workers were killed together with a civilian. Authorities are yet to release more information on the identities of the workers and the civilian, though.

Abdelmoula said, “Any attack carried out against a health worker or healthcare facility is not only unacceptable, but also a breach of the international humanitarian laws.”

He also condemned the untimely nature of the workers’ murder, which falls right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the country hard.

Furthermore, the European Union also issued a statement calling for “thorough and complete investigations” into the senseless killing of frontline workers against COVID-19.
