Kiki Gbeho discussed the outcome of the 30 percent women quota in the just concluded elections in Somalia with several ministers.
Gbeho, who is the United Nations Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Somalia, discussed this issue with Hanifa Mohamed Ibrahim.
Ibrahim is Somalia’s Minister of Women and Human Rights Development.
The two discussed this issue on May 19 with several women ministers from the Federal Member States (FMS) in Somalia.
Representatives from the Goodwill Ambassadors for Somalia also joined them in the virtual discussions.
Somalia Non-State Actors (SONSA) participated in the discussions too.
The participants discussed the lessons learned from their advocacy efforts.
Initial reports indicate that Somalia did not achieve the 30 percent quota for female representation in the House of the People (Lower House) and Senate (Upper House).
However, the country made good progress that it could use as the foundation for all future advocacy efforts.
