UN Envoy Conway Hails Somalia’s Centennial Vision 2060 Launch

Mogadishu, Somalia — United Nations Deputy Special Representative George Conway has extended his congratulations to Somalia’s National Economic Council (NEC) following the launch of the Centennial Vision 2060 (CV2060) in Mogadishu this week.

The visionary plan outlines a long-term blueprint for Somalia to become a peaceful, prosperous, and proud nation by its centenary in 2060. Conway welcomed the initiative and invoked a hopeful Somali proverb, saying, “A well with water is not far away,” to underscore the nation’s potential to achieve its aspirations.

He also praised the broad range of contributors who played a role in crafting the Vision 2060, acknowledging the vital support of UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), World Bank, UN agencies, and other partners who continue to engage in Somalia’s recovery and development.

Vision 2060 aims to set clear goals across governance, security, economy, education, and other vital sectors to uplift Somalia into a stable and prosperous future. The launch is seen as an important milestone toward charting the country’s path to sustainable progress and national unity.

Conway’s remarks reflect a shared optimism among Somalia’s international partners that sustained cooperation and strategic investments will help realize the aspirations outlined in the historic Centennial Vision 2060.
