James Swan, the United Nations Special Envoy to Somalia, traveled to Qatar on Sunday, November 15 for a series of meetings with top government officials.
While in Doha, Swan is scheduled to hold meetings with Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The leaders are expected to discuss several issues pertaining to the East African nation.
Somalia is currently on an electioneering mood and politics is the most discussed topic in the country.
Consequently, discussions around the country’s elections are expected to be on the agenda of issues that Swan discusses with Al Thani.
Swan has already met several political leaders in Somalia.
His tour of Qatar seems to point towards a new strategy of engaging some of Somalia’s most important international partners.
