A top United Nations expert has called upon Somalia to step up its efforts to address the security challenges the country faces.
Isha Dyfan, UN’s Independent Human Rights Expert on Somalia, issued this call on Thursday.
In her speech, Dyfan dwelt on the impact of ongoing Al-Shabaab attacks on civilians. Specifically, she focused on the challenges facing women and children.
“I call upon the Somali government to take all the necessary steps to protect its citizens,” she said.
Dyfan also appealed to the government to prosecute state officers who are accused of committing human rights violations.
