UN, Japan Support Somali Maritime Crime Training

Mogadishu – In a significant boost to Somalia’s maritime security and blue economy development, the United Nations has concluded a two-week capacity-building training for Somali maritime security agencies.

The training was undertaken through the UN Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

Funded by the government of Japan, the training focused on enhancing Somalia’s ability to investigate, prosecute, and adjudicate maritime crimes within a fair and transparent legal framework.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the rule of law in Somalia and support the country’s vision of a sustainable and secure blue economy.
