On April 4, 2025, marking the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, the United Nations reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Somalia in eliminating explosive hazards to ensure a safe and secure future for all Somalis.
The UN emphasized the significant toll that explosive ordnance continues to exact on civilians, hindering economic recovery and development by rendering areas inaccessible and restricting access to essential services.
The organization highlighted its ongoing collaboration with Somali authorities and international partners to mitigate these threats through risk reduction, survey and clearance activities, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at enhancing the capabilities of Somali security institutions to address the challenges posed by explosive hazards.
