UN Security Council Adopts Resolution 2551 on Somalia

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has adopted Resolution 2551 on Somalia.

Resolution 2551 sailed through the session on November 12 after 13 UNSC members voted in favor of it.

Two abstentions were recorded.

The resolution provides the measures to be taken to fight terrorism in the East African nation.

These include preventing terrorists from Al-Shabaab and the Islamic State from getting weapons.

Moreover, the UNSC Resolution 2551 prevents terrorists from raising funds to support or finance their activities in Somalia and the surrounding nations.

Through Resolution 2551, UNSC would look into new ways of raising funds to help it conduct a successful fight against Al-Shabaab.
