UN Security Council Clears Banadir Regional Police Chief of Al-Shabaab Links

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has cleared Sadak Omar Mohamed, the Banadir regional police chief, of links with Al-Shabaab.

On Wednesday, October 28, UNSC received a report from Philippe Kridelka, who led a committee investigating any possible links between Mohamed and the militia.

In his statement, Kridelka said, “We have reviewed the information presented by Somalia and Eritrea Monitoring Group on General Sadak Mohamed.”

“After thorough investigations, we have discovered that no such links exist between General Mohamed and the Al-Qaeda linked group,” Kridelka concluded.

Kridelka presented his report to the UN Panel of Experts (PoE).

PoE’s predecessor had mentioned possible links between General Mohamed and Al-Qaeda thus forcing it to investigate the matter.

The police boss had also been under investigation on charges of ordering the raid on the home of Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, the leader of Wadajir Party.

During the raid, four of Warsame’s bodyguards lost their lives.

Previously, the leader of Wadajir Party had indicated that Sadak Mohamed ordered and directed the deadly raid on his home.
