The UN Security Council has welcomed news of recent security gains the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and AMISOM troops have made against Al-Shabaab.
In recent weeks, joint operations between government and AMISOM troops have proved successful against Al-Shabaab particularly in the Lower Shabelle region.
US African Command (AFRICOM) has also waged several successful airstrikes against the Al-Qaeda linked group.
However, UNSC members also expressed displeasure at news that national security forces have been deployed in Galmudug and Jubbaland to quell “political rivalries.”
UNSC reiterated to the government of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo the importance of ensuring that national security forces remain nonpartisan.
