UN Security Council’s Calls to Somalia to Stop Political Impasse and Violent Conflicts Ignored

The political impasse in Somalia between President Farmaajo’s government and members of the opposition has attracted the ire of the UN Security Council.

UN Security Council met and its members agreed that Somalia is on the wrong path, especially if the political deadlock and the ceaseless violent conflicts continue unabated.

In a press release, both the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary General’s office said, “All stakeholders must stop actions that only increase tensions in the country.”

“We urge stakeholders to pursue the sort of actions that make dialogue possible. We hope FSG will engage in broad-based discussions and consensus building with federal member states.”

Nonetheless, it seems that the calls have been ignored. President Farmaajo leads the Federal Government of Somalia. Consequently, the calls were primarily aimed at his office.
