James Swan, the United Nations Special Envoy to Somalia, commended the government and people of Somaliland for commitment to hold timely and credible elections.
The UN Special Envoy visited Somaliland’s President Muse Bihi Abdi in Hargeisa on February 3.
During the visit, Swan lauded Bihi’s administration, the National Elections Commission (NEC), political parties, and the population for excellent preparations for the upcoming elections.
Furthermore, Swan discussed ways of strengthening cooperation between the UN agencies in the region and Somaliland.
They also discussed security in the country ahead of the upcoming polls.
Swan also reminded Somaliland that it has a crucial role to play in ensuring that the Horn of Africa region continues to enjoy stability.
