James Swan, the US Special Envoy to Somalia, met with the Gen. Abdi Hassan, the country’s police chief to discuss security for the coming elections.
Last week, the country’s leaders signed an agreement after four days of the National Consultation Conference in Mogadishu.
In the agreement, the leaders stated that the country is scheduled to hold its first round of parliamentary polls from November 2020.
Swan met with Gen. Hassan to discuss ways of ensuring that the country enjoys solid security to allow voters to exercise their democratic rights peacefully.
For decades, Somalia has battled wanton insecurity with Al-Shabaab and other extremist groups wreaking havoc in the country.
