James Swan, the UN Special Envoy for Somalia, met with the Horn of Africa’s ex-President Sheikh Sharif in Mogadishu.
UNSOM broke news of the Wednesday meeting on Twitter. Special Envoy Swan expressed his gratitude at the meeting with President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed.
The meeting delved into several issues affecting Somalia. Top of the agenda was the need for broad political consultations and the importance of building consensus.
Somalia has listed several priorities that it intends to achieve in 2020. The meeting between Swan and Sharif discussed these too.
The East African country is on the verge of organizing the first one-person-one-vote elections in the country since 1969.
Somalia faces plenty of challenges. Al-Shabaab has been at the forefront in making the country insecure and unstable politically and economically.
