The new United Nations Special Representative to Somalia visited Garowe on Saturday.
Catriona Laing, the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General, visited the region where she held discussions with Puntland’s President Said Abdullahi Deni.
They discussed wide-ranging issues including the recent direct elections that Puntland held.
Puntland created history when it held one-person-one-vote elections for local government seats.
Laing and President Deni also spoke about humanitarian needs as well as peacebuilding and state-building efforts.
She congratulated the Puntland voters for the historic vote.
The UN Special Representative urged the rest of the country to follow the path that Puntland created by holding direct elections.
