UN to Help Somali Women to Achieve 30% Representation

The United Nations has promised to help Somali women achieve the much-desired 30 percent representation in elective positions.

Kiki Gbeho said this when she held discussions on this matter with Khadija M. Diriye.

Gbeho, the outgoing Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) of the UN, was with the Minister of Women and Human Rights Development in Mogadishu.

They agreed on the important role that the UN could play in helping Somali women to achieve increased representation in leadership positions.

Gbeho and Diriye also agreed on the need to advance women’s rights in the country through legal reforms and political dialogue.

She added that the UN would stand by Somali women in their quest for equality and empowerment.
