UN to Improve Operational Support to Somalia’s Security Forces

The United Nations will work closely with Somalia to improve operational support to security forces in the country.

Atul Khare, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, issued this assurance on Monday during his meeting with Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.

He made this vow when visiting the Prime Minister at his Mogadishu office.

According to the Prime Minister, the purpose of the meeting and subsequent discussions was to the importance of improving cooperation between Somalia and the UN.

Further, they agreed to empower Somali forces to assume full security responsibilities on December 2024 once the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) troops leave the country.
