UN Welcomes Parliament’s Approval of Roble as New Prime Minister

The United Nations has praised the decision by the House of Representatives to approve the appointment of Mohamed Hussein Roble as Somalia’s new Prime Minister.

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo appointed Roble as the new premier to take over from Hassan Ali Khaire, who was voted out of office by the Lower House in late July.

Since then, Mahdi M. Gulaid had been acting as the Prime Minister.

On September 17, Farmaajo picked Roble as the new premier but he had to await parliament’s approval of his choice.

On Wednesday September 23, the UN hailed the decision by parliament to give the appointment its seal of approval.

Furthermore, the UN pledged to work closely with Roble to deliver the dreams and aspirations of the people of Somalia.

All the 215 Members of Parliament who attended the Lower House session voted to endorse Roble as the new Prime Minister.
