In a recent three-day mission to Somalia, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Regional Director for Arab States, Abdallah Al Dardari, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s transition from aid dependency to sustainable development.
During his visit, Al Dardari engaged with senior officials from the Federal Government of Somalia, including the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Planning, Interior, and Justice.
Discussions centered on strengthening partnerships to advance economic development, enhance governance and justice sector reforms, and drive climate resilience efforts.
Al Dardari emphasized the importance of innovative financing mechanisms to attract investment and accelerate sustainable economic development without adverse environmental impact.
He highlighted that Somalia stands at a critical juncture where public-private partnerships can not only drive economic growth but also enhance the country’s stability and global image.
The visit also featured high-level roundtable dialogues on renewable energy, water resource management, and economic development, aiming to explore solutions for sustainable growth and resilience-building in Somalia.
